Today was anything but a good day, and as Jaejoong stumbled through the mall hallway half blind, he cursed his eternal and obvious clumsiness to the farthest and most distant corners of hell.o-o-o
He’d accidentally dropped his contacts down the sink; he’d stepped on his glasses by accident, and he was now currently running late for work. He ran carelessly through the mall, just hoping that he’d get into the department store before his manager noticed that he was late and could threaten to fire him again for the sixth time that month.
“I’m sorry!” Jaejoong yelled back after he’d accidentally bumped into someone, but due to his situation, he didn’t bother to stay behind.
He dashed into the store and ducked behind the counter as soon as he caught sight of his manager patrolling the area. He pressed his body against the counter and breathed in deeply, trying to catch his breath.
A person with a blurry face knelt down, and the noticeably female figure waved her hand in front of his face, “Why do you look like you just ran a marathon?”
“I –“ Jaejoong gasped for breath, “Just got here.”
“Oh,” Chaerin replied understandingly before she patted Jaejoong’s head and stood up properly, “Well, it’s a good thing that you’re here now because Jaehun was looking for you, and I lied and said you went to the bathroom.”
Jaejoong let out a sigh of relief, “Thank you. I love you.”
Chaerin rolled her eyes and tossed back her blonde hair, “So what’s up with all the confusion on your face too –“
“I broke my glasses, and I dropped my contacts down the sink.”
The younger girl frowned at Jaejoong and narrowed her eyes, “Are you serious? You managed to do that all in one morning? Maybe you should Jaejoong-proof your apartment or something –“
“Hey!” Jaejoong scowled, “I am fully capable of taking care of myself and others –“
“So why does Jiji hate you?”
“… because I forgot to feed him a couple of times, that doesn’t mean I’m a bad pet owner,” Jaejoong stuck his tongue out at her immaturely, “Besides, I’m sure Jiji hates you as much as he hates me.”
“He actually sleeps on the bed now,” Chaerin replied idly as she fixed the receipts on her counter, “He lets me pet him too, so I’d say he loves me…I can’t exactly say the same for you though.”
Jaejoong waved her off, “I never really did like cats anyway –“
“Whatever,” Chaerin laughed and looked down at Jaejoong, who was still seated on the floor, “By the way, the yogurt guy is here.”
Jaejoong stood up immediately, “Where?!”
“Can’t you see him? Your eyes usually narrow in on him in seconds with your stalker vision –“
He turned his head and glared at the girl, “Firstly, it’s not stalker vision, and secondly, I’m lacking any sort of visual aid, so right now, everything looks like a blurry mess of colors and blobs.”
“He’s wearing his uniform, over there by the shoe aisle –“
Jaejoong sighed and stared in the direction of the shoe aisle longingly, “I can’t admire his gorgeous face and long legs like this. I can barely distinguish him from any of the other people over there.”
“Did you bring your glasses?” Chaerin asked, “You could get them repaired at the store next door during your shift. I’m sure it shouldn’t take too long…” she stared at Jaejoong and shook her head, “You didn’t bring them, did you?”
The older man bit his lip, “I was running late and forgot…?”
“What about your wallet? You could buy a new pair of contacts or at least a disposable pair.”
Jaejoong touched his pocket and groaned, “Fuck it! I don’t have it. I probably dropped it or something on the way here – fuck!”
He turned to Chaerin and shot her a look of despair, “This day really, really, really sucks.”
Chaerin turned her head to look at Jaejoong,
“It might get better though.”
“Why?” Jaejoong muttered as he stared at the counter irritably, “Did I win the lottery? Has Jiji finally come to love me?”
“No… yogurt guy is coming over here,” Chaerin said as she nudged Jaejoong’s stomach, “Put a smile on your face already!”
Jaejoong’s head snapped up, and he swallowed hard as soon as yogurt guy appeared in front of him.
“Good… morning,” Jaejoong stuttered nervously, his eyes finally able to fully distinguish and recognize each one of the handsome guy’s features, “How may I help you today?”
The handsome guy laughed, “Well, first, I think I have your wallet,” he handed out the wallet to Jaejoong, “You bumped into me earlier, and it fell.”
He smiled, and Jaejoong blushed as he took the wallet out of the handsome yogurt guy’s hand.
“Also, since I’m here…” the guy faltered and smiled shyly, “I’m looking for a shirt…or several actually. I mean, I know it might sound stupid…but my sister told me that I don’t dress well so…”
Jaejoong’s eyes trailed down from the attractive mole on the handsome guy’s face down to the name tag that was embedded onto his shirt.
“I’m sure Jaejoong could help you out,” Chaerin said as she elbowed him, “Right Jaejoong?”
Jaejoong’s eyes and he nodded profusely, “Yeah! Sure! I could help you out. It wouldn’t…” he blushed, “I’d love to.”
Yunho smiled charmingly, “Thanks. I’ll be a good customer, I promise.”
Jaejoong nodded and in his attempt to get to Yunho, he accidentally tripped over a shopping basket close to the counter and fell. His face heat up in embarrassment, and he lost all sense of speech when he felt Yunho help him up.
When he looked up, his blushed deepened further when he realized how close his face was to Yunho’s.
“Are you alright?”
Jaejoong nodded profusely, “I’m okay.”
Yunho smiled again and let go of Jaejoong, “…so, will you lead the way?” he asked nicely, “Or should I attempt to show you stuff I like and see if they’ll meet your approval?”
Jaejoong bit his lip, his heart threatening to burst out of his chest, “I…I think the second option would be good.”
“Okay then,” Yunho began to walk in the direction of the men’s section, and Jaejoong trailed after him, but he turned around to look at Chaerin, who was shaking her head in amusement.
He shot a brilliant smile in her direction and put his thumbs up, “Best day ever!”
“…I think that looks really good on you.”o-o-o
Yunho laughed and crossed his arms across his chest, “That’s what you said about the past five shirts. Are you just being nice?”
Jaejoong bit his lip and leaned against the rack of clothes, “I’m being honest. I think it looks really…” his eyes focused on how nicely the red fabric hugged Yunho’s upper body and made his muscled figure ten times better.
Due to his poor eyesight, he would have to keep coming up closer to Yunho to see how well the clothes looked on him, and frankly, he didn’t mind being that close to such a handsome guy a single bit. “You look good.”
The taller man blushed, “You’re being too nice, I swear.”
“You should try on that other shirt I got you – the azure one, and then you can narrow down the ones you like best,” Jaejoong suggested, finally getting a grip of himself and finally tearing his eyes away from Yunho’s chest, “How does that sound?”
“It sounds good.”
Yunho turned around to head back into the changing room, and as soon as he was back inside, Jaejoong went over to the other racks to check out some shirts. He frowned at the horrendous pieces of clothing before his eyes settled on a black polo shirt.
He quickly took the one in Yunho’s size off the rack and headed over to the dressing rooms. Jaejoong knocked on the door of the changing room where Yunho was,and spoke, “Hey Yunho, I know I said we’d start choosing shirts, but there’s this really nice shirt that I think –“
The door opened, and Jaejoong’s widened as soon as he caught sight of Yunho’s naked upper body. His eyes trailed downwards immediately, and he swallowed hard at the sight of Yunho’s boxers peeking from the waistband of his pants.
Jaejoong’s eyes snapped up, and he blushed profusely. Yunho was smiling at him, and something more than told him that Yunho knew where he’d been looking. He shoved the shirt in Yunho’s direction and tried to hide his deep blush by covering Yunho’s view of his reddened face.
“This shirt is nice, it might look good on you, okay bye, I’m going now,” he blurted out before he tossed the shirt at Yunho and practically ran away from the dressing area. As soon as he was out, he noticed that Heechul was looking at him.
“What?” Jaejoong snapped, hoping his blush had faded away.
Heechul scoffed, “Perving on him?”
The older man shrugged, “I can’t blame you if you did, he does have a nice body. Not as nice as Hangeng’s but, it’s better than yours –“
“Hey! I have a very nice body, thank you very much,” Jaejoong scowled and waved Heechul away, “Go fix your hair or something. It’s starting to look flat on top.”
“The only thing that’s flat here is your ass.”
Jaejoong’s eyes widened, “You bitch! How could you – “
Someone tapped him on the shoulder, and Jaejoong whirled around, only to stare into the face of his boss. His boss frowned at him in disapproval, “Disorderly conduct so early in the morning?”
“But – Heechul, he –“
“Is something wrong here?”
Both Jaejoong and his boss turned around, and Yunho was standing in front of them wearing the same black shirt that Jaejoong had recommended to him earlier. Jaejoong swooned inwardly at how handsome Yunho looked before he glanced at his boss who was studying Yunho carefully.
“Is there anything you need help with sir?” Jaehun asked, “We have a new line of –“
“Actually, Jaejoong was being extremely helpful,” Yunho said nicely, “He was helping me choose some shirts. I think he’s been very attentive to me.”
Jaehun glanced at Jaejoong, “I see…well then, I’ll leave him to continue helping you then,” he turned to look at Yunho, “Have a good day sir.”
As soon as he was gone, Jaejoong huffed, “He hates me.”
Yunho chuckled, “It’s okay. I know what you feel. My manager over at the yogurt shop hates me too. He always complains about how messy I am.”
Jaejoong smiled and squinted up slightly at Yunho’s face, “I’m sorry, I usually wear glasses or contacts, so if all this squinting is freaking you out or making you feel uneasy, I totally understand –“
“It’s okay,” Yunho replied smoothly, “It makes me feel special to know that you’re making such an effort to pay attention to me.”
Jaejoong blushed, “…uh yeah…you’re welcome. I mean, yeah,” he stared down at the floor, “Maybe you should figure out what you’re going to buy now.”
“Yeah sure,” Yunho chuckled once again and turned back to head into the dressing room, and as soon as he was gone, Heechul sidled back up next to Jaejoong and nudged the other man.
The younger man turned his head and frowned, “Don’t say a word –“
“I wasn’t going to –“
Jaejoong pushed Heechul and made his way back to Chaerin, ignoring Heechul’s comment about how his hair looked weird.
Jaejoong slowly packed up the last of Yunho’s things and handed the other man the shopping bag, “Here you go.”
Yunho smiled, “Thanks…for everything.”
They stared at each other awkwardly until Chaerin cleared her throat loudly and sent a pointed glare in Yunho’s direction, “I think this is the part where you ask him out on a date now?”
They both turned a bright shade of red, and Chaerin laughed before she walked away to give them some space. Jaejoong stared down at his hands, and when he looked up, he noticed the cute thinking expression on Yunho’s face.
“…do you want yogurt?” Yunho asked nervously, “I mean, I know it’s not that great for a first date and all, but you know –“
Jaejoong shook his head, “No, I can’t sorry.”
Yunho looked at him in confusion, “What? Why –“
“I’m lactose intolerant,” Jaejoong said with a laugh. He bit his lip nervously and smiled shyly at Yunho, “So….”
Jaejoong nodded and beamed brightly, “Okay.”
After Yunho had turned away to leave the department store, Jaejoong had only one thing on his mind whilst his boss was scolding him for being such a lazy ass and for not heading straight back to work.
Today was the best day ever.
